RICHMOND, Va. – After an impressive performance in goal on Saturday, Towson University field hockey goalkeeper Lena Vandam has been named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week.
Vandam becomes the first Tiger to earn the honor since Tabi Hatch was selected in 2010 (10/18).
The graduate student is the second Tiger to earn a conference award this season as Kaiya Towsend Sabur named Rookie of the Week on March 16. The pair of Towsend Sabur and Vandam are the first Towson players to win weekly league awards in the same season since 2008 when Karen DiFilipio (10/20) and Christina Boarman (9/8, 10/27) achieved the feat.
Over the weekend, Vandam played 60-minutes in goal as Towson defeated Northeastern for the first time since 2011 and for the first time in program history on the Huskie's turf. The victory is also the Tiger's first CAA win since 2011 and first conference win on the road since 2010.
While in net Vandam faced 13 shots, recording four saves and only allowed one goal. She has posted a .800 or better save percentage in three of four games this spring and leads the league with 6.25 saves per game. Her overall save percentage is .735.
Vandam also owns a conference-best 12 saves, tallied against Syracuse in the first game of the spring season.
