COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Themis Haliou was crowned champion of the B flight after a thrilling three-set win as the Towson University women's tennis team wrapped up play at the Bedford Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Three other Tigers also placed in the top-3 of their own brackets, including Sarah Pospischill who placed second in her flight for the second time, after finishing as the runner-up in 2019. Olivia Rothfeld and Amelia Lawson both won the back draws of their respective flights to place third.
"There was lots of tennis this weekend but it is good to be back competing," head coach Jamie Peterson said. "Themis beat Howard's best player in another clutch performance. Amelia and Olivia also won their back draws in their flights. Overall, going 5-0 in singles matches against Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) opponents and incredible an 9-1 in third set tiebreakers is great. Also, congrats to the three newcomers who got their first wins as Tigers!"
