University Park, Pa.- After three rounds of play at the Nittany Lion Invitational, the Tigers finished in eighth place with a score of 889 (+25).
"Exciting to see the ladies at even par yesterday afternoon, it proves early we can go low and breeds confidence and competitiveness within the team," head coach Shannon Briggs said. "One shot off the school record first tournament of the season is an awesome way to start!"
Jordan Cornelius (75-71-73) lead the Tigers with a score of 3-over 219. She finished tied for 11th overall. Cornelius also had the best final round on the team, shooting 1-over. She had six birdies in the tournament.
Mathilde Delavallade of Penn State maintained her lead to win the invitational shooting 10-under.
Odette Font Garcia (73-72-77) finished her first collegiate tournament tied for 30th with a score of 6-over 222. Font Garcia added two more birdies to her scorecard in the final round to bring her tournament total to 10.
Faith McIlvain shot 2-over in the final round and totaled 224 strokes (+8). Her best round was the second, where she was even-par and had four birdies.
Freshman Rayab Lee (76-73-80) finished 13-over with 229 strokes. Lee recorded three birdies in the tournament.
Rounding out the team, Julia Calomiris (82-76-75) shot 3-over in the final round bringing her tournament stroke count to 233.
The Tigers will be back in action Sept. 12-13 at the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
