Back in the Water
It's the second meet of the week for both the men's and women's swimming and diving programs at Towson University. The Tigers make a trip to Philadelphia for one final regular season road meet, taking on the Drexel Dragons first thing Saturday morning at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.
In The National Rankings
In the January CSCAA Coaches' Polls, neither men's or women's programs are mentioned among the CSCAA Preseason Coaches Poll this fall.
Looking for a Double - Women
Fresh off a 179-120 win down Charles Street over Loyola, the Towson women's swimming and diving team looks to continue its momentum on the road.
On the boards,
Alyssa Largay, an NCAA Zone Diving Qualifier at 1- and 3-meters, is cruising lately, winning the 3-meter board in the last two meets and in three of the last four outings. She doubled earlier this week, winning at both heights against Loyola.
Parker Schulz is also coming on strong for the Tigers late in the season, winning twice at Loyola (200-yard free, 200-yard back) while aiding in two winning relays on Charles Street.
Freshman
Bridget Thomas collected her first win in the 1000-yard free earlier this week while also taking second in the 500-yard free.
Hailey Ritter won the 100-yard backstroke while adding a second-place finish in the 100-yard freesyle.
The Tigers swept three events at Loyola: the 200-yard butterfly (
Karlee Carminati,
Maddie Mince,
Samantha Casolo) and both diving events: 1-meter (Largay,
Christina Coleman,
Sarah DiGaetano), 3-meter (Largay, Coleman, DiGaetano).
Looking to Bounce Back - Men
After nearly two full months away from competition, the Towson men will look to bounce back from a 168-123 loss on Wednesday at Loyola.
Brian Benzing continued his stranglehold on the breaststroke events, winning the 100-yard event for the fourth time this season, extending his collegiate unbeaten streak. Benzing added a win in the 100-yard butterfly as
Nick McClure took third in the race.
Freshman
Luke Gallagher picked up his first win at the college level, taking the 3-meter dive with a 286.05, a personal best.
At Loyola,
Ryan Baldino notched two top-three finishes, winning the 100-yard freestyle with a second-place finish in the 50-yard free.
Luke Schwar added a third-place finish in the latter event while taking second in the former.
Saturday's meet will be the first time since October 23 the Towson men will face a CAA opponent after a 172-89 win at William & Mary. This weekend's meet is the first of two-straight weekends the Tigers take on a league foe, rounding out the regular season with a Senior Day meet against Delaware at Burdick Hall Pool.
On the Road Again (Again)
- Both the Towson men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue their long road swings to open the 2021-22 campaign.
- After the women opened the season at home, both sides are on the road until Jan. 29, 2022 when both teams return to Burdick Pool.
- Last weekend's women's meet was first event for the Tigers this calendar year, but the trip to Harrisonburg will be Towson's second-longest road meet of the year.
- The four-mile trip down Charles Street to Loyola University Maryland on Wednesday is Towson's shortest trip of the year.
- Towson's men have not competed at home in nearly a year after toppling Mount St. Mary's 139-103 on Feb. 27, 2021.

Owning Charles Street
Towson's mailing address may be on York Road, but the Tigers have owned Charles Street since the 2002-03 campaign.
With no more than 5 miles between Towson, Loyola and Johns Hopkins, the schools square up quite often.
The women's team has won its last 15 meets against Loyola and its last 10 against Johns Hopkins.
On the men's side, the Tigers have five wins in their last six meetings with the Greyhounds and have won four of the last five meetings against Johns Hopkins, reaching back to the 2016-17 season. The lone blemish was a one-point loss in a neutral dual at Navy to open the season.
