Three members of the Towson University field hockey team have been awarded 2022 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Postseason honors. Georgia Beachley and Hannah McKeon were named Second Team All-CAA, while freshman Hedwig Veldhuizen was selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team. The league office made the announcement Thursday morning.
Georgia Beachley
One of three Tigers to start all 18 games, Beachley was a pivotal member of the Tigers' attack this season. After recording five goals and six assists this year, Beachley has breached the program top 10's in all three major offensive statistics: goals, assists and points. Her six assists place her tied for seventh in the CAA, while her five goals and 16 points are tied for ninth in the conference.
With 19 career goals over four seasons, Beachley is ninth all-time in Towson Field Hockey history, tied with Joann Engestrom (1998-2000). She trails only Christina Boarman (46), Julie Lambi (44), Ashley Bacon (27), Kajee Murangi (27), Lisa McCullen (26), Katie DeFilippo (25), Lauren Volk (21) and Kristie Blumer (21).
Beachley recorded six assists this season, lifting her to 10
th all-time in the Tigers' rankings. She is tied with Amy Shaw (1994-97) and Emily Swartz (2002-05), and trails only Christina Boarman (36), Julie Lambi (23), Kelsi Fortier (23), Carolina Avila (21), Stephanie Kisic (20), Ashley Bacon (18), Andrea Schlezes (18), Laura Kilmon (16) and Laura Schnell (16).
Her 51 total points amassed is seventh all-time in the program rankings. She trails Christina Boarman (128), Julie Lambi (111), Ashley Bacon (72), Kajee Murangi (63), Katie DeFilippo (61) and Lisa McCullen (60).
This is the Bel Air, Md. native's second postseason honor earned in her career. She was previously named to the CAA All-Rookie Team in 2019 and was also recognized as a CAA Preseason Honorable Mention back in August.
Hannah McKeon
With seven goals and five assists, Hannah McKeon finished the season as the team's top scorer and points leader. Her seven goals rank eighth in the CAA, and her 19 points are good for seventh. The senior is featured on the CAA leaderboards in every offensive category except for assists and assists per game. Over a nine-game stretch from Sept. 11 to Oct. 16, the Pasadena, Md. native recorded six tallies and three assists to help lift the Tigers to three victories.
McKeon has similarly climbed the Towson points leaderboard following her impressive performance this year. Her 25 career points rank tied for 34
th in Towson history with Lauren Van Denmark (1991-94) and Karen Walsh (1989-91).
This is McKeon's first postseason honor she's collected in her career.
Hedwig Veldhuizen
After an impressive 2022 campaign with three goals and six assists, freshman Hedwig Veldhuizen was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team. The Dutch native was a critical member of the Tigers' attacking penalty corners all season, serving as the team's inserter on most opportunities.
Veldhuizen earned a CAA weekly honor earlier this season, being named the CAA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 3. The freshman recorded one goal and one assist against Saint Louis to help lead the Tigers to their second consecutive victory. Â Her 12 points over 14 starts is tied for third on the team.
