FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Towson University men's golf team had a successful first day at the Doc Gimmler tournament, hanging onto fourth place after the completion of two rounds. The Black & Gold finished the day earning a team score of 552 (-8) with four of the Tigers placing in the top-25.
Jeremy Summerson leads for the Tigers, currently standing tied for 11th after the first day of the tournament. Summerson had a solid performance during the first 36 holes, shooting 68 for both rounds which leaves him at -4 overall on the par-70 course. During his second round he notched five birdies total, three of them in a row from holes 7-9.
Not too far behind Summerson is
Justin Griffith, who finished tied for 17
th. Griffith had two strong rounds as well, shooting a 68 and 70 respectively to be at -2 overall. He earned eight birdies throughout the 36 holes, two of them being back-to-back during the first round from holes 4-5.
Poonyapat Nantsupawat started off with an impressive performance, earning three birdies in a row from holes 1-3 during the first round which ended up placing him in first. The freshman hung onto first place for as long as he could before ultimately ending up tied for 23
rd after the second round. Nantsupawat shot an amazing 66 for the first round and a 73 for the second round, leaving him at -1 overall.

rd is
Brad Riley, who is also currently at -1 overall. Riley shot a 71 for the first round, earning two birdies and three bogeys. He managed to bounce back for the second round, shooting a 68 after notching three birdies.
Julian Gonzalez rounds out the team, finishing with a score of 148(+8) after shooting a 75 and 73.
"The guys had a really solid day today," head coach
Mike Larkin said. "It's always nice to have four guys finish the first day under par. We put ourselves in a good position for the final round, which is all we ever want to do. Tomorrow is just more of the same and we'll see how things shake out."
The Tigers will be back on the course tomorrow to finish up the final 18 holes of the tournament.
