WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Towson University women's golf team moved down one spot to finish in fifth place at the conclusion of the William & Mary fall invitational. The Tigers earned a final score of 910 (+46). This is an improvement from last year's tournament, where the Black & Gold finished in 12
th place with a score of 912 (+48).
Elon and Richmond tied for first with scores of 877 (+13).
"With the way our team hits the ball off the tee there is great opportunity to improve and lower our scores," head coach
Shannon Briggs stated.
Odette Font Garcia secured a top-10 finish after shooting a 74 for the third round. Font Garcia tied for seventh, earning two back-to-back birdies during the last 18 holes. Her final score was 218 (+2).
Next for the Tigers was
Isabella Portokalis who finished tied for 19
th after shooting a 77 for her final round. Portokalis ended the tournament with a final score of 227 (+11).
Faith McIlvain and
Madison Barber both shot 79 for their final 18 holes. McIlvain placed 29
th and finished with a score of 232 (+16) while Barber finished tied for 30
th with a 233 (+17).
Ryab Lee and
Kyndall Campbell rounded out the squad, both finishing with scores of 251 (+35).
"The ladies game plan going into Penn State will be to regroup and focus on our putting to remain precision oriented within our routine," Briggs added. "I am looking forward to a continued team effort building momentum through the season."
The Black and Gold have quite a quick turnaround as they will be competing this weekend at the Nittany Lion Invitational, hosted by Penn State on Sept. 17 and 18.
