SOUTH KENT, CT. – The Towson University men's golf team shot under par as a team for the fourth consecutive round during Round 1 of the Hartford Hawk Invitational Monday at Bull's Bridge Golf Club. Afternoon storms impacted Round 2 and not every team finished play. Towson was at 9-under for the round when play was halted. Tuesday will feature the conclusion of the second round and head straight into Round 3.
The top four Tigers shot 285 (-3) Monday morning tied for third place with UConn, just one shot behind UCF and Fairfield.
Mike Larkin's team finished under par during all three rounds of The Doc Gimmler (Sept. 10-11), shooting 9-under par for the tournament- the fourth best score to par in school history.
Brad Riley led the pack after the first round, shooting two-under to tied for eighth. The senior recorded four birdies for the round. Riley was able to finish his afternoon round, shooting 1-over par and heads into the final round at 1-under.
Following closely behind him was
Justin Griffith, who shot 1-under for the first 18 holes. Griffith's morning round included an eagle on No. 1. He is even par in round 2 with two holes remaining when play was halted.
Julian Gonzalez shot an even par 72 in the first round, with four birdies. The graduate student is shooting -6 during the second round with one hole to play. Gonzalez has shot 69 three times during his collegiate career including last fall at the Towson Invitational.
Jeremy Summerson finished the morning session with an even par 72 and was -1 in the afternoon session with two holes left to finish the round.
Poonyapat Nantsupawat shot a 76 (+4) for the first round. The freshman bounced back in the second round, shooting 2-under with one hole left.
Ryan Peters, competing individually, shot a 74 for his first 18 holes, putting him at 2-over.
