GREENSBORO, NC – The Towson women's golf team finished the Grandover Fall Classic in seventh place after earning a final score of 940 (+76). The team earned 20 birdies total and two of the Tigers placed in the top-25.
High Point University won the tournament by two strokes with a final score of 918 (+54). Sarah Kahn from High Point was the top finisher individually after rounds of 79-69-74.
Odette Font Garcia (76-77-71) had a stellar final round performance which led her to finish the tournament in second place. The sophomore shot 1-under and notched two birdies. For the final round, every hole except No. 15 was on-par or under. Font Garcia's 71 was tied for the lowest score that round out of 73 golfers.
"Odette continues to show precision in her ball striking and course management," head coach
Shannon Briggs said. "It was great to see her place second overall."
Tied for 23
rd was
Madison Barber (73-81-81) who finished at 19-over. The senior recorded two birdies overall and started the tournament with a career best 73.
Following Barber was
Faith McIlvain (78-82-80) who placed tied for 37
th after the final 18 holes, improving by two strokes in between rounds.
Rayab Lee (79-82-86) and
Isabella Portokalis (85-76-88) rounded out the squad.
Kyndall Campbell, competing individually, finished the tournament in 59
th place after rounds of 83-85-82.
"We are continuing to build confidence this semester," Briggs added. "A small break before ECU will help the team recharge for our last test of the fall. We are a young team building a solid foundation, taking small steps in the right direction."
The Tigers will wrap up the fall season in two weeks at the Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by ECU. The tournament will take place on Oct. 10 and 11 at the Greenville Country Club.
