Southern Pines, NC – The Towson University men's golf has wrapped up the first tournament of the spring campaign, placing 15 out of 18 teams after finishing with a final score of 901 (+19) after rounds of 304, 290 and 307. The Tigers tied for third most eagles made in the tournament, earning three combined.
South Florida took the tournament title, finishing the event with a total of 15-under par, 849. Jakub Hrinda of George Washington placed first individually after rounds of 66, 69 and 68. He finished at 13-under.
Senior
Jeremy Summerson (79-66-72) was the top finisher for the Tigers, completing the tournament in the top-25. Summerson completed the second round this morning after the meet was suspended yesterday due to darkness. He fired a 66 after recording six birdies for the second round, tying with one other player for lowest score of that round. Every other hole was on par for the second 18 holes. He added an eagle for the final round during hole No. 5. Summerson ended up tied for 14
th in a field of 92 players.
Ending the tournament at 7-over was
Brad Riley (71-73-79). He made par on 34 of the 54 holes. Additionally the senior recorded eight birdies throughout the three rounds, tied for seventh for most made during the tournament.
Justin Griffith (76-77-75) completed the event at 228 (+12). The senior made par for 15 of the final 18 holes and tallied six bridies throughout the three rounds.
Ryan Peters (80-74-81) finished at 19-over par, 235. He added two more birdies for the final round.
Jai Sheth (78-79-86) ended the tournament at 27-over. The freshman notched an eagle during the fifth hole of the final round.
Freshman
Manuel Murguia competed as an individual.
"This was a tough start to the season for us," head coach
Mike Larkin expressed. "I thought we came out flat, and just frankly, not ready to compete. We really have a lot to work on if we want to contend for a conference title."
