State College, PA – The Towson University men's golf team completed it's final tournament of the season before Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, placing ninth at the Rutherford Intercollegiate after rounds of 297-283-296.
The Tigers fought hard but ultimately came up short for the last day of the tournament as they saw 26 bogeys across the final 18 holes of play.
"This was a really disappointing finish today," head coach
Mike Larkin commented. "I thought we played a great second round yesterday afternoon."
After edging out runner up Valparaiso by one stroke, reigning champion Penn State took the tournament title, posting 282-285-282 to mark the fifth consecutive win for the program. At 3-under, the Nittany Lions were one of two teams to conclude the event under par. Rhode Island's Bryson Richards won the tournament individually at 6-under, 207.
The course averages for each round of the tournament were 74.49-72.83-73.68.
Justin Griffith (74-70-73) was even par for the day until a double bogey on his 18
th hole, No. 8. He posted four birdies to finish the tournament at 4-over, tied for 18
th.

Brad Riley (70-71-76) who notched two birdies during the final 18 holes of play.
Jeremy Summerson (75-72-73) added a birdie during the front nine and was on par for 15 holes of the last round. The senior made the third most amount of pars for the tournament, earning 40.
Julian Gonzalez (79-70-74) concluded the day at 3-over, making par on 13 of the 18 holes during the final round. The graduate student tallied one birdie for the day.
Ryan Peters (78-72-78) and
Poonyapat Nantsupawat (79-74-76) rounded out the squad, finishing 64
th and 66 respectively. Combined the two earned six birdies.
"We built some momentum after moving up the board, and then just came out flat today in good scoring conditions and made a bunch of big numbers. We really need to tighten things up and pay more attention if we want to contend next week at CAAs," Larkin concluded.
Towson concludes it's season with CAA Championships April 23-25 in Beaufort, South Carolina at the Dataw Island Club.
