TOWSON, Md. – Towson University women's golf team head coach
Shannon Briggs has officially announced the fall 2023 schedule, consisting of four tournaments throughout September and October. Three of the four will be 54-hole events taking place over the course of two days.
"We enter this fall season with a mix of seasoned veterans and new talent," coach Briggs commented. "As we expand our roster, we look to be competitive in this year's conference championship. We have an exciting competitive schedule put together for our rising seniors to gain confidence with familiar courses."
Recent graduate
Madison Barber will be returning to the team for a fifth year after finishing last season with the third lowest average on the team of 78.95 per round. The Canada native was Towson's top finisher at the Pirate Collegiate tournament (10/10-11/2022), tying for 16
th after rounds of 77-72-74. Rising seniors
Faith McIlvain and
Isabella Portokalis are two other notable returners to look out for as well. McIlvain had the team's second lowest stroke average at 78.45 and was the Tigers top finisher at the 2023 Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championships where she tied for 10
th overall. Portokalis was Towson's top finisher at back-to-back tournaments during spring season.
The Tigers will also welcome University of Alabama Birmingham transfer Peyton Costabile from Ontario, Canada. Costabile earned an average of 78.1 per round after playing in three tournaments for her freshman season with the Dragons. She shot a season low 74 during her last round at the Hoover Invite (9/19-20/2022) where she was UAB's top finisher after tying for 21
st. Costabile also competed in the 2023 Porter Cup from July 12-15 at the Niagra Falls Country Club, placing 11
th after having rounds of 73-78-77-72. Portokalis competed in the same tournament, tying for 15
th with rounds of 76-80-78-74.
For the second consecutive season, the Tigers will kick things off in Williamsburg, Virginia, participating in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate at the Resort River Course hosted by William & Mary. The two-day 54-hole tournament will take place from September 11-12.
The Black & Gold then head up the road to Annapolis for the Navy Fall Invitational from September 30 – October 1 for a 36-hole tournament at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Club.
The team is set to open October with the University of North Carolina Greensboro Fall Invitational, hosted at the Forest Oakes Country Club from the 9
th to 10
th.
Fall season wraps up with the Edisto Island Invitational, hosted by Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) foe College of Charleston at the Plantation Course on Edisto Island. The tournament takes place on October 16 and 17, consisting of 54 holes.
"We will be testing our skills at the end of the fall season with an opportunity to play against last year's conference winner College of Charleston in its home tournament," Briggs added. "Goh Tigers!"
