BALTIMORE, Md. – The Towson University tennis team took on Loyola on the final day of the Greyhound's McClure Invitational. The Black & Gold claimed both doubles wins and two singles wins.
"We won four of six matches today against Loyola," head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "Gaia and Liv won singles in straight sets. Tamzin and Chloe won their doubles match in straight sets too."
Singles
Ashira Murray dropped her match against Elena Hartley, falling 6-3 and 6-2.
Gaia Montecchi picked up her second consecutive singles win of the tournament, defeating Jessica Bodewes 6-4 and 6-1.
Aubrey Carper fell to Emma Roeck after a tough three sets. The freshman fell 6-3 for the first set but was able to fight back and win the second 6-3. Carper ultimately lost in the tiebreaker, 10-5.
Olivia Rothfeld picked up the second singles win of the day for the Tigers, winning in straight sets.
Doubles
Kiersten Tambe and Chandre Boshoff defeated their opponents after battling for three sets. The duo fell 6-2 for the first but responded 6-3 for the second set to force Christine Richiez and Lauren Manwiller to a tiebreaker set. The Tigers walked away with the win after going 10-8 for the final set.
"The win of the day came from Chandre Boshoff and
Kiersten Tambe," Peterson added. "They were down 8-3 in the third set super tiebreaker and won seven straight points to win the match 10-8."
Tamzin Pountney and
Chloe Courtnage defeated their opponents in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3.
"Very solid finish to the weekend," Peterson concluded.
