SOUTHPORT, N.C. – The Towson University women's golf team wrapped up the first day of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship in seventh place ahead of North Carolina A&T, Monmouth and Hofstra after shooting 331 (+43).
 
UNCW currently holds the top spot going into day two after earning a score of 308 (+20) with four players in the top 15. Reigning CAA Champion College of Charleston trails the Seahawks by only one stroke after shooting 309 (+21) for the first round. CAA newcomer Campbell and Delaware round out the podium with a tie for third, both posting scores of 312 (+24). Delaware's Alisa Khokhlova and UNCW's Malu Brinker are the top individual finishers for day one after both carding 74 (+2).
 
The average score for the first round was 81.68.
 
Graduate student Madison Barber led the Tigers' day one efforts, wrapping up play tied for 14^th after shooting 79 (+7). Barber had a solid back nine, parring eight holes. She added a birdie during her front nine.
 
Faith McIlvain, Isabella Portokalis, Peyton Costabile and Rayab Lee all recorded 84's for their first rounds, putting each Tiger 12-over par. The four are currently tied for 35^th.
 
Lee and Costabile each tallied three birdies while McIlvain earned two. McIlvain is also tied for the lowest par 3 average in the 50 player field, earning a score of 2.75 (-1) after recording two birdies and one par throughout the four par 3 holes.
 
Play resumes tomorrow morning for the second round of 18. The third and final round will happen on Sunday, April 14.
