Gerzabek Salem Announces Signings of Arkhurst and Valkenburg

TOWSON, Md. – Towson University head field hockey coach Katie Gerzabek Salem has announced the signings of Adeline Arkhurst and Fiene Valkenburg, bringing the 2024 incoming recruiting class to eight signees.

Arkhurst hails from Lancaster, Pa., where she played goalkeeper for the Penn Manor Comets. With her help in the cage, the Comets were Lancaster Lebanon League champions in her junior year. Arkhurst earned academic All-State honors following the 2022 season.

"We are excited to add another member to our goalkeeping unit!" said Coach Gerzabek Salem. "Addy's solid foundation of fundamental skills and save-ability will help push our unit to continue to reach new heights. Addy comes from a hotbed of hockey in the central Pennsylvania region, which has allowed her to expand her knowledge of the game. We look forward to her tactical style of play here at Towson!"

Valkenburg joins the Towson program from the Netherlands, making her the third Dutch addition to the 2024 recruiting class. Fiene started playing at six years old for Nijmeegse Mixed Hockey Club (NMHC) Nijmegen and was elevated to the Dutch U14 and U15 teams during her rise through the country's ranks. Valkenburg boasts technical skill, passing vision and a knack for scoring, which will elevate the Towson attacking midfield.

"Fiene will be a tremendous addition to our midfield unit this season! Her ability to eliminate at speed and feisty style of play will help enhance our attack through the midfield. From our first conversation with Fiene, we knew she was a competitor and are excited to add her passion for the game to our Tiger Field Hockey family," added Coach Gerzabek Salem.
