Westerink and Scheenstra Named to Preseason All-CAA Team

TOWSON, Md. – Sophomore midfielder Anouk Westerink and senior goalie Tessa Scheenstra were both recognized by the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) on the Preseason All-CAA Team, the league announced on Thursday.

"We are honored and grateful to have two of our members of the team recognized on the Preseason All-CAA Team." Head coach Katie Gerzabek Salem stated, "They both have been working extremely hard not just on their own individual development but on their leadership within the group as well. We look forward to seeing their impact this Fall!"

Westerink became the first Tiger freshman and fifth Towson player to ever be named to the All-CAA First Team, was on the CAA All-Rookie team, and was a one-time CAA Rookie of the Week in 2024. The Netherlands international started every game for Towson last season tallying six goals and 13 points including a game winning overtime goal against William & Mary.

Scheenstra has appeared in all 54 games starting 53 in her three years as a Tiger and recorded her 300th career save against Lafayette on October 27, 2024. The rising senior led the CAA with 127 saves as a sophomore and earned a career best .712 save percentage while averaging under two goals allowed per game as a junior.

In the 2025 CAA Field Hockey Preseason Poll, Drexel claimed the top spot with 25 points and five first place votes. Monmouth (20) and Northeastern (16) complete the top three. Towson and Hofstra finished tied for fourth with 10 points and William & Mary (9) rounds out the list.

"To be recognized as a Preseason Top four team in the CAA is a testament to the hard work that this group has put in day in and day out to not only grow on the field but also to continue to enhance and strengthen our culture." Coach Gerzabek Salem said, "This group is hungry and fired up to get the 2025 campaign started and to see what heights we can climb too."
Towson begins the 2025 season with a matchup on Friday, August 29 against Appalachian State at 4 p.m. at the TU Field Hockey Complex. Admission to all Towson home games at the TU Field Hockey Complex is free to the public.
