Tennis Opens 2026 Spring Season Versus Johns Hopkins Sunday Night

TOWSON, Md.- The Towson University women's tennis team starts the 2026 spring season on Sunday night, Feb. 8, when the Tigers host Johns Hopkins at the Coppermine Bare Hills indoor facility. The match begins at 5:45 p.m. Hopkins opened the '26 campaign with losses to Brown and Babson last weekend.

Towson is scheduled to play 21 matches during a 59-day period between February 8 and April 8, including 10 matches at the Tiger Tennis Complex and three more at the Coppermine Bare Hills indoor facility, located five miles from campus.
 
Towson will play seven times at home during the final three weeks of the regular season, including Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) matchups versus Hampton, Stony Brook, Monmouth and UNCW.
 
The 2025-26 squad features seven second-year student-athletes, two juniors and one senior.

FALL '25 RECAP
During the fall semester, the Tigers played in four events and defeated Rider in a head-to-head match. In addition, sophomores Gaia Montecchi, Kiersten Tambe  and junior Chandrè Boshoff qualified for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Regional Championship in October.

PROJECTED LINEUP
Sophomores Montecchi, Tambe and Tamzin Pountney are expected to play at the top half of the singles lineup. Classmate Aubrey Carper finished her freshman campaign with a 6-5 record in singles play and will be battling three veterans for a spot in the bottom of the lineup.
 
Senior Sania Suchinsky finished the 2024-25 season on a six-match winning streak and enters her final semester with 20 career victories. She is 11-4 lifetime on Court 6.
 
Juniors Boshoff and  Ashira Murray, who has 12 career singles victories, are also in the mix. Boshoff, who will be part of the No. 1 doubles team with Tambe, has 16 wins in doubles during her collegiate career. She spent her freshman season playing No. 2 singles.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR
Half of the roster was born outside of the United StatesBoshoff hails from George, South Africa, which is 8,100 miles from campus. Montecchi is a native of Bango a Ripoli, Italy which is 4,300 miles from Towson. Murray and Pountney were born and raised in England, 3,500 miles from campus. Chloe Courtnage is from Calgary, Canada, which is 2,300 miles away. 

DID YOU KNOW?
Towson head coach Jamie Peterson was two-time team captain on the Towson men's tennis team from 1991-95 and finished his career with a 64-35 record, the fourth-most wins and fourth-best winning percentage in program history. He led the Tigers to back-to-back appearances in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championship in 1993 and 1994.
