TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men's golf team will compete in its second tournament this week - traveling to State College, Pennsylvania for the Rutherford Intercollegiate hosted by Penn State this weekend.
The Tigers finished second at ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational, a tournament that ended Monday, April 13.
Jai Sheth (sixth, E) and
Sky Aung (eighth, +1) both had top 10 results.
Sheth and Aung will be joined in State College by
Michael Matheson,
Ariihau Faana and
Matthew Gonnello. First round tee times for Towson on the Penn State Blue Course will begin Saturday on hole 10 at 7:48 a.m.
Last year, Sheth finished tied for eighth place at the event after rounds of 69-75-70. Matheson placed 14
th, just two shots back, after rounds of 72-74-70.
Aung fired a 69 (-2) during the final round of the 2024 event.
At the 2004 Rutherford Intercollegiate, Towson ended Penn State's 12-year winning streak after capturing the event title for the first time in program history. The Tigers defeating the Nittany Lions by one stroke. All five Tigers birdied the final hole to secure the victory. Current Director of Golf
Mike Larkin was part of the lineup alongside Billy Wingerd, Jeff Castle, Alex Brueggemann and Josh Spreng.
This will be the final tournament before the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship on April 26-28 in St. Helena Island, SC at the Dataw Island Golf Club.
