TOWSON, Md. - The 2014-15 school year saw plenty of success on the field, on the court and in the pool for the Tiger Athletics Department. Over the next several weeks, TowsonTigers.com will look back at the Top 10 moments from the 2014-15 year.
The past year proved to be a balanced one across the board as voting by members of the athletics staff saw 26 different moments receive a vote and 13 of the 19 teams be recognized in either the Top 10 or the honorable mention.
The Top 10 moves to number seven with women's soccer getting a big win.
The goal of any team is to make the conference championship and to have a chance to win a title.
On October 26, the Tiger women's soccer took a big step towards that goal. Towson entered the final game of the season needing a win to have a chance to make the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament for the first time since joining the league in 2002.
On a day where emotions were running high as the Tigers celebrated their seniors, it was a pair of sophomores that provided the magic.
Natalia Pinkney collected the rebound off a shot from senior
Sofia Read and sent a hard cross into the back of the net. Pinkney's goal gave Towson a 1-0 lead over William & Mary just 10:24 into the game.
Towson added to its lead in the 40
th minute as
Marissa Green headed in a ball off a junior
Vasthy Delgado free kick. That gave Towson a 2-0 lead.
A trio of big saves from senior
Erin Quinn allowed the Tigers to keep William & Mary off the board and claim the 2-0 victory.
The win gave the Tigers their first berth in the CAA Tournament. In addition it was the Tigers' first-ever win over William & Mary.
