TOWSON, Md. - The 2014-15 school year saw plenty of success on the field, on the court and in the pool for the Tiger Athletics Department. TowsonTigers.com is looking back at the Top 10 moments from the 2014-15 year.
The past year proved to be a balanced one across the board as voting by members of the athletics staff saw 26 different moments receive a vote and 13 of the 19 teams be recognized in either the Top 10 or the honorable mention.
The Top 10 moves one step closer to the top of the list as number six involves the women's lacrosse team who proved just because you're two bodies down, it doesn't mean you can't succeed.
The Tiger women's lacrosse team has developed a pattern of doing well in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. However on May 1 against top seeded Hofstra, the Tigers had their work cut out for them as they went two-men down in overtime.
The Tigers and Pride were playing their second close game of the season (Hofstra claimed the 8-7 double overtime win in the regular season) as Towson rallied from a 2-0 deficit and a 3-2 deficit to send the game to overtime.
A yellow card put the Tigers down a man early in the extra session but senior
Kelsea Donnelly came up with a big save to keep the Pride off the board. However, the player in the box for the yellow card left early and had to serve a second two minute penalty. A second yellow card on the Tigers left Towson two-men down with 3:26 to play in the overtime period.
Playing with just 10 players versus the other team's 12 would usually prove problematic. Not on this day for the Tigers. Donnelly came up with a big save and junior
Breanna Hamm won the draw control to start the second half of the overtime session. Towson went on the offensive attack and senior
Andi Raymond passed the ball to fellow senior
Paige Duncan who got a shot past the Hofstra goalie for the score. Towson took a 4-3 lead with 2:15 to go in the extra session. The Tigers were still two-men down though. Hamm won her second straight draw control and this time Raymond scored unassisted to give Towson a 5-3 lead with 2:02 showing on the clock. That was two goals while two-men down for the Tigers.
Towson went on to score two more goals as Raymond had an empty net goal and sophomore
Samantha Brookhart scored with 16 seconds to play to seal the 7-3 overtime victory. The win allowed the Tigers to advance to their fifth straight CAA title game.
