Towson Applies The Finishing Touch To Edge Tulane

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Towson University men's basketball team relied on a committee of contributors to finally subdue Tulane, 86-82, in overtime in the consolation game of the D.C. Holiday Hoops Fest Saturday at the Entertainment & Sports Arena, home of the 2019 WNBA champion Washington Mystics.

Towson never trailed in overtime after scoring the first five points of the extra session. The Tigers got sparkling performances from Brian Fobbs, Allen Betrand and Nicolas Timberlake to beat Tulane for the second consecutive season and enter conference play with momentum.

Fobbs finished with his third career double-double and first this season (24 points and 12 rebounds). The 6 foot, 5 inch senior was efficient as he shot 6-of-10 from the field and 9-for-10 from the foul line. As a team, the Tigers were locked in from the foul line as they sank 23 of 26 attempts.

Betrand and Timberlake combined to score 28 of Towson's 47 points in the second half. In tying his career high, Betrand had 15 of his 18 points in the final 25 minutes. Timberlake scored 13 of his career-high 15 points after intermission.

Dennis Tunstall added eight points and a team best eight rebounds. Nakye Sanders battled foul trouble to finish with nine points

Those efforts were needed to overcome Tulane's barrage of 14 3-pointers and a 33-point performance from Teshaun Hightower, who forced overtime with 7.5 seconds remaining with an old-fashioned 3-point play. Christian Thompson and Nic Thomas scored 19 points each for the Green Wave.
