TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team got back in the win column with a 5-2 win over Norfolk State on Sunday afternoon.
"Great day for Towson Tennis to bounce back with a good win after a tough loss to a good William & Mary team," head coach Jamie Peterson said. "This Norfolk State team was feisty and the conditions were ugly but we did the necessary things to have a good team win. It's a good boost before leading into a big conference match with Drexel."
The pairs of Themis Haliou/Sissi Axelsson (No. 1) and Jessica Assenmacher/Olivia Rothfeld (No. 2) both came out with dominant wins in doubles to secure the first point of the match for the Tigers.
The Black & Gold carried the momentum into singles play, as Haliou won on the second court in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. Axelsson kept it going with a big win on court No. 5 (6-0, 6-1) and Sarah Pospischill clinched the match win for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court No. 4. Rothfeld's opponent on the final singles court retired to give the team their fifth point of the day.
