Verona, N.Y. – After playing two rounds on the first day of the Turning Stone Intercollegiate, the Towson University men's golf team stands in fifth place going into Monday.
After shooting 293 as a team in round one, Towson improved by one stroke between the rounds, shooting a 292 in round two. Currently Towson is at +9 as a team.
Jeremy Summerson is currently tied for eighth overall individually after the first two rounds, shooting a 70 and 72 respectively to be at -2 overall on the par-72 course. Summerson had four birdies per round, earning eight for the day.
Following Summerson is
Poonyapat Nantsupawat who is currently tied for 18
th overall individually after shooting a 74 and 72, leaving him at +2. Nantsupawat earned back-to-back birdies during round two with holes 1-2 and 5-6. Trailing close behind him is
Justin Griffith who had rounds of 74 and 73.
At +7 after two rounds is
Julian Gonzalez, including a 75 on the second round.
Brad Riley is in the fifth spot for the Tigers after finishing up with a second round of 81.
Host team Missouri stands in first place after the first day at 557 (-19), followed by Stetson at 572(-4). Towson is currently ahead of Boston College, George Mason, Sacred Heart, Mount St. Mary's, Niagara University and St. Francis-Pennsylvania.
The team will wrap up play tomorrow, returning to the Turning Stone Resort to conclude the season-opening tournament.
