WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Towson University women's golf team wrapped up the season opener on a high note, posting its best score of the tournament on the final day of play. Four Tigers shot in the 70s for their final round and two placed in the top-30 individually.
Towson dropped 10 strokes from its round two score, shooting 305 for the final day of the UNCG Golf Partners Collegiate. The Black & Gold moved up two spots from yesterday to finish the tournament in eighth place, ahead of Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) foe William & Mary. The Tigers had a final score of 929 (+65).
Jacksonville State and Elon University claimed the tournament title, tying for first place with scores of 897 (+33). Morehead State University rounded out the podium in third as the only other team to shoot below 900 with a final score of 899 (+35). On the individual side, Jinger Heath of Jacksonville State placed first after rounds of 72-71-69. Heath was the only athlete to finish under par as she was 4-under at the conclusion of the event.
Senior
Madison Barber was Towson's top finisher of the tournament, jumping up five spots to place 21
st in a field of 78. Barber matched her round one score, wrapping up the spring season opener with a score of 76 for her final round.
Isabella Portokalis moved up one spot to finish tied for 28
th after shooting 78 for her final round. She recorded one birdie during the front nine.
Peyton Costabile improved by 11 spots from yesterday's finish to complete the tournament tied for 33
rd. She shot 77 for her final day of play.
Faith McIlvain shot Towson's lowest score of the day, carding a 74 which is a seven-stroke improvement from her first and second round scores. The senior was on par for 14 holes and added a birdie on No. 18.
Grace Oristian and
Kyndall Campbell (individual) rounded out the squad with scores of 82 and 90, respectively.
