GRASONVILLE, Md. – The Towson University women's golf team finished in the top-5 at the Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay hosted by JEL Golf, placing fifth after rounds of 313, 327 and 312 for a final score of 952 (+88).
The Tigers collected the second most birdies out of all 12 teams, tallying 24 total.
The average score per round was 85.03, 85.54 and 83.29, respectively.
Sacred Heart won the tournament after earning a final score of 891 (+27) as three players swept the podium. Boston College took second (906(+42)) and Navy placed third (933(+69)).
Chantal El Chaib of Sacred Heart was the individual champion, winning the event as the only athlete under par. She had rounds of 74, 70 and 68 for a final score of 212 (-4).
Faith McIlvain was the top finisher for the Tigers, tying for 10
th after rounds of 73, 82 and 78. The senior posted Towson's lowest 18-hole score for the entire tournament during round one, shooting 1-over par 73, which tied her for first overall. During that round, McIlvain notched three birdies total. She wrapped up her front nine 1-under par, offsetting one bogey with two birdies and parring the remaining six holes. Throughout the following 36 holes she added two more birdies to her scorecard, one per round.
Madison Barber finished right behind McIlvain, tying for 13
th in a field of 69 players after rounds of 77-83-74. The graduate student's nine stroke improvement between rounds two and three was supported by three birdies and 10 pars during her final 18 of the tournament. Barber had the third highest amount of birdies out of all players, earning seven total.
Isabella Portokalis was the third Tiger to place in the top-20, tying for 20
th after shooting 82-81-79. She tallied four birdies total throughout 54 holes.
Peyton Costabile had consistent rounds of 81-81-81 to finish tied for 22
nd. She notched one birdie during her final hole.
Rayab Lee shot 85-85-83 while
Grace Oristian recorded 84-83-90. Combined, the two earned seven birdies.
Kyndall Campbell rounded out the squad, improving after each round. The sophomore shot 96-88-83.
The Tigers compete in the final tournament of the spring season, attending the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Championship from April 12-14 at the Reserve Club at St. James in South Port, North Carolina.
