WALLACE, N.C. – The Towson University women's golf team wrapped up its second tournament of the spring season with a 10
th place finish at the River Landing Classic after rounds of 319-320-318, totaling a final score of 957 (+93).
James Madison claimed the tournament title, placing first atop 11 teams with a final score of 881 (+17) after shooting under 300 for each round. Elon placed second with a score of 886 (+22) while East Carolina rounded out the podium in third with a 887 (+23).
Maria Atwood of JMU was the individual champion as the only player under par at the conclusion of the tournament. Atwood had rounds of 69-72-74, wrapping up with a final score of 215 (-1).
The average scores by round were 78.03, 78.36 and 77.92 respectively.
Faith McIlvain was Towson's top finisher of the tournament, tying for 27
th with rounds of 79-73-78 for a total of 230 (+14). The senior found most success during the second round, where she recorded three birdies and was on par for 11 holes. McIlvain added one more birdie during the final round, tallying four total for the tournament.
Senior
Isabella Portokalis finished tied for 39
th after consistent rounds of 78-78-78 for a total of 234 (+18). She recorded four birdies total, two of which were during the final round. Portokalis' birdie during the second round was on a par 5, 473-yard hole, the same hole that McIlvain birdied on her third round.
Madison Barber had rounds of 77-84-81 for a score of 242 (+26). She notched two birdies during the first round.
Rayab Lee (competing as an individual) shot 83-87-76, completing her first tournament of the spring season with a 246 (+30). Her 11-stroke improvement from the second to third round was due to an even-par 36 for the back nine. Lee also recorded a birdie during her second round.
Grace Oristian (89-85-81) and
Peyton Costabile (85-91-82) rounded out the squad with final scores of 255 (+39) and 258 (+42), respectively.
The Tigers continue their spring season at the end of the month, staying local for the JEL Golf Invitational in Prospect Bay, Maryland on March 29 and 30.
