Pospischill Wins Third Straight Singles Match But Towson Tennis Sunk By Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sarah Pospischill won in singles for the third consecutive match, but the Towson tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to Navy Sunday afternoon at the Tose Family Tennis Center at the United States Naval Academy.

Navy earned the doubles point by winning two of the three matches. Amelia Lawson and Lauryn Jacobs were victorious at No. 3, winning in a tiebreaker 7-6.

Pospischill tied the match at one win apiece with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. The sophomore from Austria is now 3-2 in singles this season, including straight set victories over Delaware State (Feb. 19) and Radford (Feb. 26).

"What Sarah did out there today and against Radford on Friday is what I have been looking for. She is starting to step up," Towson head coach Jamie Peterson said. "The first weekend of the season, she was playing tentatively and now she is playing aggressively and getting results."

Navy won the other five singles matches.

Three of Towson's four losses have been at the hands of teams currently ranked in the top ten in the East Region – Liberty, James Madison and Navy.

Records:
  • Towson – 1-4 (0-1 CAA)
  • Navy  – 2-0

Postgame Quote:
Towson head coach Jamie Peterson: "Two thirds of the way through the first set in singles, I was thinking we were going to be in good shape, but they played better clutch tennis. We have to learn to play better clutch tennis. Right now, we are playing too tight and not confident enough in those pressure situations and it is costing us against these better teams."

Next Match:
Towson remains on the road for three matches next week. On Friday night, the team will be in Philadelphia to take in St. Joseph's then returns to the state of Virginia for the third time in four weeks, this time to face Colonial Athletic Association power William & Mary and Norfolk State a week from today in Williamsburg.
