ELON, N.C. – The Towson women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Elon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Friday afternoon in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) action. The Tigers are now 2-6, including 0-3 in the CAA.
Towson's No. 1 doubles team of
Themis Haliou and
Alexa Martinez won its match, but Elon took the other two to earn the point.
Amelia Lawson and
Lauryn Jacobs at No. 2 led 2-1, but dropped five of the final six games of the set.
"I thought our doubles came out today with better energy," Towson head coach
Jamie Peterson said. "We had a chance to win the point but we are falling short on these opportunities. The other teams are playing tougher and better on the bigger points."
Elon swept the singles, winning all in straight sets, although Haliou (No. 1 singles) and Lawson (No. 2 singles) battled. Both lost 6-3, 6-4.
"In the second set, Themis was down 5-4 but led 40-love," added Peterson. "She had a chance to make it 5 all. That is a prime example of what we are doing. We lose confidence and it snowballs on us."
Elon improves to 9-3 this season. Junior Victoria Saldh (No. 1 singles), Lizette Reding (No. 3 singles) and Shauna Galvin (No. 6 singles) are now a combined 23-6.

Postgame Quote:
Towson head coach
Jamie Peterson: "It was a little bit of a challenge for us today. Even though we have been able to practice outside a few times, this was our first match outside. We just have to figure it out. It is still a long season and we are just starting to get to play outside. Many of the teams we have been playing have their own indoor facility or have been playing outside already. With the weather getting better back home, we can now utilize our outdoor facility."
Next Match:
Towson heads to South Carolina for a CAA match-up versus the College of Charleston on Sunday morning at the College of Charleston Tennis Center.
