WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Towson University women's tennis team will open Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play this weekend against UNCW on March 19 (10 a.m.) and the College of Charleston on March 20 (9 am.). Both matches will be played at the UNCW Tennis Courts in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The two matches will be the first of six total conference outings. The team also has eight nonconference competitions remaining on their schedule.

Last Time Out
Towson fell to Saint Francis in its most recent match on March 13, 4-3.
The Tigers won the doubles points, with victories on courts No. 1 and No. 3.
Themis Haliou and Sissi Axelsson got things start on the first court, with a dominant 6-1 win. Lea Kosanovic and Amelia Lawson followed up with another big victory on the last court, 6-4, to secure the doubles point.
In singles, Amelia Lawson earned a win on court No. 1 in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Kosanovic also took care of business on court No. 6, battling to a third set to pick up with victory, 6-4, 0-6, 10-6.
It wasn't enough though as the Red Flash won the four middle courts in straight sets to secure the 4-3 victory.
Fall 2021 Recap
Towson had a solid fall season, competing in four tournaments. Themis Haliou led the way to start off the fall, winning the B Flight at Maryland's Bedford Cup. Sarah Pospischill also placed second in her flight at the tournament. Haliou and Jessica Assenmacher then followed up with a strong doubles performance at ITA's, advancing to the round of 16. At Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational, Pospischill and Lea Kosanovic each advanced to the finals in their respective consolation flight.
The Tigers ended the season with the Fall Tiger Classic, where the team amassed 15 singles wins. Olivia Rothfeld went 3-0 over the weekend to lead the team.
Last Spring
The black & gold finished the spring 2021 season with a 7-14 overall record. Haliou got three wins at the No. 1 spot and five at the No. 3. Amelia Lawson also picked up eight wins on courts three and four. Pospischill won 11 matches between playing on courts four, five and six while Assenmacher also secured seven wins on the last two courts.
New Faces
In addition to the nine returners, head coach Jamie Peterson welcomed three new student-athletes to the team in the fall. Freshmen Sissi Axelsson and Nadeen Shrebati both joined the squad from Sweden and Australia, respectively. Sophomore Olivia Rothfeld also transferred in from Georgia Southern. Katie Twelves also joined the team for the spring season from the University of Leeds in England.
Looking Into The Seahawks
UNCW has won seven of its last 10 outings, most recently falling to William & Mary, 6-1. Prior to the loss, the Seahawks had picked up three wins in a row over Georgetown College (7-0), UNC Ashville (7-0) and Penn State (4-3).
Sasha Belaya has the most wins on the team at court No. 1 with a 5-3 record. Belaya and Lauren Gish are also the top doubles duo with a 6-1 mark at the top lineup spot.
Scouting the Cougars
Charleston has been on a hot streak, winning its last six matches dating back to March 11. The team's most recent wins came earlier this week against Elon (5-2) and Davidson (6-1).
CofC has been strong at the top of the lineup as Slade Coetzee has a 12-2 record on the first court and Trinkle Halli has a 13-1 mark on second. The pair is 9-2 on the first doubles court as well.
The Cougars will face both Indiana and William & Mary before meeting the Tigers.
Next Up
The Black & Gold will continue conference play as they host Hofstra on Friday, March 25 at 3 p.m. The team will then travel to play Mount St. Mary's the next day, March 26, at 3 p.m.
