TOWSON, Md. — The Towson University women's tennis team will host its first and only doubleheader of the season on Sunday, April 3 as the team welcomes Coppin State (10 a.m.) and Georgetown (3 p.m.) to the Tiger Tennis Complex.

Last Time Out
In its most recent outing on March 25, Towson defeated Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Hofstra, 6-1, to secure its first conference win.
Themis Haliou and Sissi Axelsson (No. 1) and Amelia Lawson and Lea Kosanovic (No. 3) won their doubles matches to secure the first point of the match.
The Tigers followed up with wins on the first five singles courts to secure the victory. Axelsson started the team off with a win on court No. 5 in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
Haliou (6-4, 7-6 (4)) and Assenmacher (7-5, 7-6 (1)) fought in second-set tiebreaks to win on courts No. 2 and No. 3 and secure the win. Pospischill also stayed tough to win her match on court No. 4 in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 6-0.
Fall 2021 Recap
Towson had a solid fall season, competing in four tournaments. Themis Haliou led the way to start off the fall, winning the B Flight at Maryland's Bedford Cup. Sarah Pospischill also placed second in her flight at the tournament. Haliou and Jessica Assenmacher then followed up with a strong doubles performance at ITA's, advancing to the round of 16. At Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational, Pospischill and Lea Kosanovic each advanced to the finals in their respective consolation flight.
The Tigers ended the season with the Fall Tiger Classic, where the team amassed 15 singles wins. Olivia Rothfeld went 3-0 over the weekend to lead the team.
New Faces
In addition to the nine returners, head coach Jamie Peterson welcomed three new student-athletes to the team in the fall. Freshmen Sissi Axelsson and Nadeen Shrebati both joined the squad from Sweden and Australia, respectively. Sophomore Olivia Rothfeld also transferred in from Georgia Southern. Katie Twelves also joined the team for the spring season from the University of Leeds in England.
Looking Into the Eagles
Coppin State has had a tough start to the season, dropping its first 11 contests. The team most recently went 0-3 at the MEAC Roundup in Cary, North Carolina. The Eagles dropped decisions to NC Central (0-7), South Carolina State (1-6) and Norfolk State (1-6).
Iva Jankovic has the best singles record on the team with a 3-5 mark. She is 3-3 on court No. 2 and 0-2 at the top lineup spot. Afruica Gentle and Shariah Dunwell are top doubles duo with a record of 2-3 on the middle court.
Scouting The Hoyas
Georgetown started off its season on a nine-match losing streak before turning it around with wins against Morgan State (7-0), East Carolina (4-3) and Drexel (4-2). The Hoyas most recently got the win against Seton Hall, 6-1.
Olivia Ashton (No. 3 and No. 4) and Agata Mikos (No. 2) boast the best singles records with 4-3 marks. The double duo of Chloe Bendetti and Sofie Moenster are 2-4 to top Georgetown between the last two courts.
Next Up
Up next, the Tigers will host Delaware on Thursday, April 7 at 3 p.m. as the first of three consecutive home matches. The team will go onto play William & Mary on April 9 at 3 p.m. and Norfolk State on April 10 at 2 p.m.
