TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women's tennis team earned two big wins following its Sunday doubleheader, defeating Coppin State, 4-0, and Georgetown, 4-3.
The Black & Gold have now won three matches in a row, after defeating Hofstra (6-1) on March 25. Amelia Lawson and Sarah Pospischill were a perfect 2-0 on the day in singles competition, each defeating one of their two opponents in dominating fashion, 6-0, 6-0.

The team started off the day strong against Coppin, winning the doubles point. All three pairs picked up wins as Themis Haliou/Sissi Axelsson (No. 1) and Sarah Pospischill/Katie Twelves (No. 2) recorded 6-3 wins while Erin Gray/Olivia Rothfeld won by default.
Rothfeld picked up another victory on the sixth court, again winning by default. Pospischill won in straight sets on court No. 3 (6-0, 6-0) to give the Tigers their third point of the day, but before any other singles matches could be decided, the match entered a two-hour rain delay. When action resumed, Lawson earned the 6-3, 6-0 decision on the first court to clinch the match win for Towson, 4-0.

Georgetown came out with the doubles point after a quick restart for Towson. Amelia Lawson/Lea Kosanovic did get pick up a victory on the third court, 6-1, but it was not enough to secure the point.
The Tigers came out strong and fast in singles. Lawson picked up a quick win at the top lineup spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Assenmacher followed up with a victory on the third court (6-3, 6-4) to put the team ahead in the match, 2-1. Pospischill emerged with another straight set win, 6-4, 6-2, to put Towson ahead, 3-1. Haliou clinched the fourth and deciding match point for the Black & Gold, with a 6-4, 6-4 decision on the second court.
"This was a big win for us and for the girls' confidence," head coach Jamie Peterson said. "Even though we dropped the double point, we were able to handle those conditions and have the confidence to know we could come back and win the match, which is going to be huge in the future. From the mental side of tennis, this is a huge boost for Towson. We are excited about the opportunity to play Delaware on Thursday and give it our all."
