The team started off the day strong, winning the doubles point over Coppin. All three pairs picked up wins as Themis Haliou/Sissi Axelsson (No. 1) and Jessica Assenmacher/Sarah Pospischill (No. 2) recorded 6-3 wins while Erin Gray/Olivia Rothfeld won by default.
Rothfeld picked up another victory on the sixth court, again winning by default. Pospischill won in straight sets on court No. 3 (6-0, 6-0) to give the Tigers their third point of the day, but before any other singles matches could be decided, the match entered a two-hour rain delay. When action resumed, Lawson earned the 6-3, 6-0 decision on the first court to clinch the match win for Towson, 4-0.
Georgetown came out with the doubles point after a quick restart for Towson. Amelia Lawson/Lea Kosanovic did pick up a victory on the third court, 6-1, but it was not enough to secure the point.
The Tigers came out strong and fast in singles. Lawson picked up a quick win at the top lineup spot, winning 6-0, 6-0. Assenmacher followed up with a victory on the third court (6-3, 6-4) to put the team ahead in the match, 2-1. Pospischill emerged with another straight set win, 6-4, 6-2, to put Towson ahead, 3-1. Haliou clinched the fourth and deciding match point for the Black & Gold, with a 6-4, 6-4 decision on the second court.
Fall 2021 Recap
Towson had a solid fall season, competing in four tournaments. Themis Haliou led the way to start off the fall, winning the B Flight at Maryland's Bedford Cup. Sarah Pospischill also placed second in her flight at the tournament. Haliou and Jessica Assenmacher then followed up with a strong doubles performance at ITA's, advancing to the round of 16. At Navy's Blue & Gold Invitational, Pospischill and Lea Kosanovic each advanced to the finals in their respective consolation flight.
The Tigers ended the season with the Fall Tiger Classic, where the team amassed 15 singles wins. Olivia Rothfeld went 3-0 over the weekend to lead the team.
