2016-17 Tiger Top 10: No. 3 A Big Performance in the Pool

TOWSON, Md. – The 2016-17 school year provided Towson Tiger fans with plenty of exciting moments on the court, on the field, the course and in the pool. Moment number three takes fans to the pool for an impressive performance from a sophomore swimmer.

A year after he was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year, Towson University swimmer Jack Saunderson headed to the CAA Championships this February looking for more of the same.

On day one of the CAA Championship, Saunderson helped the 200-yard medley relay team set a school record with a time of 1:28.74. After grabbing a silver medal in that event, Saunderson led the 800-yard freestyle relay team to a bronze medal.

Saunderson started day four of the championship in impressive fashion in the 200-yard butterfly, winning the event with a school record, conference meet record and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:43.44. That time is the fastest in league history for the 200-yard butterfly. He improved upon his previous meet record of 1:45.02, set at the 2016 CAA Championships.

Saunderson was named the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meet after winning two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals. He set five school records, two conference meet records and posted a pair of NCAA 'B' cut times.
