A two-sport standout Don was a defensive lineman on the Tigers football team and a title holder in both the shot put and discus on the track squad.

A four-year starter at nose guard, Don was a stalwart on the defensive line. He finished his career with 154 tackles. He shared the career record for fumble recoveries with nine. In his senior year and as a 1983 team captain, he helped Towson post a 10-1 regular season record, anchoring a defense that allowed a NCAA Division II national best 5.8 points per game as the Tigers earned the first of three Division II playoff berths. For his part that year Don was selected the team’s Lineman of the Year.

In the offseason, Don competed as well for Towson’s track & field team, serving as its team captain. A native of Cambridge, Md., he competed for Cambridge-South Dorchester High School, capturing back-to-back Maryland state shot put titles. He continued his success in the weights at Towson, winning East Coast Conference discus championships in 1983 and 1984 plus a Mason-Dixon indoor shot put title. Don was honored as Towson’s Senior Athlete of the Year for those achievements. In 1998 he was inducted into Towson’s Hall of Fame.

Don worked for AAI Corporation as a project manager before assuming an administrative position with SOME (So Others Might Eat), a nonprofit organization that provides services to assist those dealing with poverty and homelessness in Washington, D.C. He also served as the finance committee chair for a local United Methodist Men’s chapter. Don passed away in February, 2025.
