Hall of Fame
One of the most talented guards ever to play at Towson, Tara Rottet Blackburn '93 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2003.
She was a four-year starter in the backcourt and a terrific outside shooter. Rottet Blackburn rinished her career with 1416 points and is still highly ranked on the all-time list.
Honored as the East Coast Conference (ECC) Rookie of the Year, she started in all 25 games her first season. She went on to ear second team All-ECC honors as a junior and was named first team All-ECC as a senior. One of the Tiger co-captains as a junior and senior, Rottet Blackburn played in all 108 games of her career and started 107 of them.
During her career she set a school record with 233 steals. She also finished her playing days second on the Tigers’ list of career assist leaders (439). For her career Rottet Blackburn averaged double figures in scoring each year and led the Tigers in scoring as a senior. An outstanding free throw shooter, she finished her career with an .846 free throw percentage, a school record that still stands. She also made 136 3-point field goals, a Towson record when she graduated.
She still holds the Towson record for 3-point field goals in a game and in a season. In addition, Rottet Blackburn holds the Towson single-season records for free throw percentage (.843) and 3-point field goal percentage (.417).
During her senior year, she helped the Tigers win tournament championships at the Big Four Classic and the Wagner Christmas Tournament. She was named as the Most Valuable Player at the Big Four Classic and earned all-tournament honors at Wagner. Rottet Blackburn led the Tigers to the conference semifinals as a senior.
A native of Tamaqua, Pa., she was named as Towson’s Senior Female Athlete of the Year. A 1993 graduate of Towson with her degree in nursing, Rottet Blackburn worked as a certified school nurse in Pennsylvania. She and her husband co-coached high school basketball and have three children, Victoria, Gabriela and Luke.
