A key member on Towson's early soccer teams,
John Shock '41 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1967.
Named an All-Southern inside left in 1939, Shock helped the team tie with Frostburg State for the Maryland State Soccer Championship in 1940. The team nearly won the title outright that season but for a loss to Salisbury State Teachers Collee at Salisbury. Shock was also named an Eastern All-Star during his career.
The son of John B. Shock Sr., a cooper, and Luella Eyre Shock, cafeteria manager at Towsontowne Junior High School, John Barclay Shock Jr. was born and raised in Lutherville.
A Towson High School graduate, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1941 from what is now Towson University. He taught at Stoneleigh Elementary School, just a stone's throw from the TU campus, and Kenwood High School before enlisting in the Air Force during World War II. He trained as a pilot and flew B-24 Liberators.
He served as principal in several schools before moving onto district and state administration. As deputy superintendent for Baltimore County public schools, he implemented the system's zero tolerance alcohol and drug policy for students in the 1970s as well as a program whose aim was protecting teachers from voilence.

passed away on May 14, 2015 at the age of 94.
