One of the top hitters ever to play for the Tigers, Kevin King '90 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2002.

King was a four-year starter at shortstop for Towson. During his career, he batted .335, one of the top 10 batting averages in school history. A two-time selection as All-East Coast Conference, he earned second team All-East in his sophomore season.

As a sophomore, he led the Tigers to their first ECC championship and their first NCAA Tournament appearance. He was the Tigers’ top hitter in 1988 with a .351 batting mark. He also hit seven home runs and had 41 RBI as Towson posted a 31-17-1 record, the best mark in school history.

King set a school record with 61 base hits and scored 38 runs. During the 1988 ECC Tournament he batted .545 to help the Tigers win their first league title. In the ECC championship game, he hit a two-run homer in the first inning to propel the Tigers to a 21-9 win over Delaware. The Tigers went on to finish fourth in the NCAA Atlantic Regional at Miami, losing to the Hurricanes and South Carolina while beating VCU.

King was also the key to the Tigers’ terrific defense in 1988 as Towson placed fourth in the NCAA Division I with a .969 fielding percentage. As a freshman in 1987, he batted .317 with 22 RBI while leading the team in walks (30) and runs scored (27). In 1989, he batted .315 and led the Tigers with 25 RBI. As a senior, he batted a team-high .350 and hit six home runs with 26 RBI while helping the Tigers reach the ECC Tournament for the third year in a row.

During his four-year career, he played in 178 games to set a Towson career record. King also finished his career as Towson’s all-time leader in at bats (606), runs scored (127), base hits (203), doubles (40), home runs (20) and runs batted in (114).

A native of Bear, Del., he worked in education after graduating from Towson. He earned his master’s degree in education and leadership from Wilmington College in 1998 and his doctorate in educational innovation and leadership from Wilmington. King and his wife, Angie, have two children, Trevor and Erin.
