Before his career was over Brian McCarty became the second Tiger in program history to amass over 2,000 rushing yards when he compiled 2,594 yards on 479 carries. His 32 rushing touchdowns also established a new record at that time.
During his career he teamed with fellow hall of famer Tony Vinson to form the top backfield tandem ever for the Tigers. The pair became the first Tiger backs to run for over 100 yards in the same game when McCarty posted 159 yards and Vinson 149 yards in a 31-14 victory against Delaware State. Over a two-year period they helped the Tigers to a 16-4 record and the program’s first national ranking (24th) as an FCS program. McCarty served as a team captain in his senior year.
In his sophomore year he became just the second Towson player to rush for 200 or more yards in a single game when he churned out 245 yards and scored three touchdowns in a thrilling 33-32 victory over Northeastern. His final score in that contest came on a 73-yard run, one of the five longest TD runs ever at Towson.
McCarty became the second player in program history to record a second 200-yard game when he piled up 237 yards in a 42-7 rout of Morgan State.
