Dr. Margaret (Maggie) Faulkner served Towson University in a number of capacities including as head coach of the Tigers’ women’s lacrosse program during its early developmental period, helping it to become an opponent to be reckoned with.

During her tenure the Tigers piled up a 105-78-4 record that included a runner up finish in the 1980 USWLA national championship. In 1974 an annual statewide women’s lacrosse tournament was initiated. The Tigers captured the first three MAIAW titles before a loss to Maryland ended the streak. In addition to lacrosse Maggie coached the Tigers’ field hockey program for four years.

Maggie was a major contributor in athletics throughout her career at Towson which began in 1970. In addition to coaching, she served as the Faculty Rep to athletics. She was a game official at the high school and college levels. She officiated at the NCAA final four in 1989 and 1990. Maggie was the first chair of the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Committee, holding the position for six years. She was also president of the Maryland College Lacrosse Association (1978-82) and vice-president of the Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (1983-85). She served for a number of years on the Maryland Special Olympics board of directors.

A graduate of West Chester University, Maggie was a member of the 1969 US Field Hockey team and the US Women’s Lacrosse team. She was inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the Lacrosse Foundation and Hall of Fame in 1997. Her latest achievement was her induction into the 2025 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
