A four-year performer in indoor and outdoor track & field and known as “Mr. Track,” Donald Hofler '57 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1994.

He won the Towson Outstanding Athlete Award for the track team in 1955 and 1956 as well as the "Baltimore Sun’s" Athlete of the Week in 1956. A versatile performer, he competed and held school records in the 50-, 60-, 100-, and 220-yd dashes as well as the pole vault. He also set school records in medley relay while setting marks for points scored in a season and meet during his career.

In 1955, he became the first Towson athlete to medal in the Knights of Columbus Indoor Invitational when he placed in the 60-yard dash.

After graduating from Towson, Hofler worked as an associate professor in education and director of reading at Loyola College. He had numerous articles published in education and reading journals and became a sought-after speaker on those topics. He received the 1990 Literacy Award from the Baltimore County Council of the I.R.A. and the 1973 Teacher of the Year award from Loyola’s graduate division.
