A four-year starter for the Tigers, Ruth Ann Holter Derrenbacher '88 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1998.
She finished her career as the Tigers’ all-time scoring leader (1,264 points). She also grabbed 806 rebounds in her career.

As a freshman, the Jefferson, Md., native was named as the East Coast Conference Rookie of the Year and earned second team Freshman All-American honors from AWSF Fast Break Magazine. As a freshman, she was the Tigers’ leading scorer with a 14.9, a mark that was second in the ECC. She also led the league in rebounding with a 10.6 mark and set a conference record with 25 rebounds in one game at Bucknell.

As a sophomore, she was hampered by a knee injury and an ankle sprain. She still managed to average 12.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. In her junior year, she missed nearly half the season with a hamstring injury. She averaged 11.3 points per game, third on the team, and had a 6.6 rebounding mark, second on the team.

As a senior, she was selected as a GTE District 2 Academic All-American. One of the team captains, she averaged 11.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. An outstanding scholar-athlete, she was named as the winner of the Towson Academic Achievement Award, presented to the most outstanding Senior Scholar-Athlete.

Upon graduation, she taught mathematics in Frederick County (Md.). In 1989, she was selected as the Outstanding First Year Teacher in Frederick County. She and her husband, Steve, are the parents of two boys.
