One of the finest quarterbacks in Towson history, Kurt Beathard '87 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1999.

He guided the Tigers to a 16-6-1 and an NCAA Division II playoff appearance in his two seasons as a starter. A native of Oakton, Va., he quarterbacked the Tigers to the national semifinals as a junior. The 1984 Tigers posted a 9-4-0 record and beat Norfolk State in the NCAA quarterfinals. Towson also won the Lambert Award as the top Division II team in the East.

The Tigers’ MVP as a junior and senior, he passed for 2,063 yards and 17 touchdowns. In his senior season, he passed for a school record 2,705 yards with 21 TDs. He was named as an honorable mention All-American as well as All-ECAC.

He was drafted by the Baltimore Stars of the United States Football League but never got to play professionally when the USFL folded.

Since graduation, he has been a college football coach. He spent the 1993 and 1994 seasons as an assistant coach at Towson. He has also coached at James Madison University, Bloomsburg State, Catholic University, Western Carolina and the University of the Pacific. He and his wife have three daughters.
