A three-sport athlete who excelled in soccer as a center halfback, Henry Lichtfuss helped Towson compile a four-year 27-7-5 record from 1954-57 that included two conference titles. He also played basketball and competed on the track and field team.

In 1956 Towson posted a 9-0-2 record. It was to be the last time in the program’s final 57-year history that men’s soccer would finish a season without a loss. Henry was recognized as an All-American in addition to earning All-Conference and All-Southern region honors for his role. Towson would not have another All-American in men’s soccer until 1998.

A 1973 inductee into Towson’s Athletic Hall of Fame, Henry was also inducted into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame and the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame. A member of the Maryland Oldtimer’s Soccer Association, he was recognized by the Carroll County Times as one of Carroll County’s Greatest 100 Athletes of the Century.
A radio repairman in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, Henry was a teacher and principal, and later served as an instructional supervisor in the Carroll County School System. In retirement, he was a realtor.

Throughout his life Henry stayed active. He played for and managed the Carroll County senior softball team. He was a member of a softball team that captured a bronze medal in the 1997 Arizona Senior Games held in Tucson. Along with his wife, Patricia, the couple won the Wakefield Valley Golf Club’s 1989 low gross husband-wife championship.

In the community Henry was a member of the Rotary, Elks, American Legion, Walkefield Valley Golf Club and the Westminster Riding Club. He attended St. John Catholic Church. He served on the Caroll County YMCA board of managers and the board of Mid-Shore ARC. He was also a member of the Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department.

Henry passed away December, 2023. He was 92-years-old.
