Hall of Fame
A two-time All-American who finished his career as the fourth-leading scorer in Towson history, John Blatchley '93 was inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004.
A Baltimore native and a graduate of Loyola High School, Blatchley helped the Tigers make three NCAA Tournament appearances in his four-year career. In addition, he was named All-East Coast Conference three years in a row while helping the Tigers win three straight ECC championships.
As a freshman, he led the Tigers with 27 assists as Towson earned its first NCAA Division I Tournament appearance. As a sophomore, he earned All-ECC honors for the first time as the Tigers won the ECC championship. In his junior year, he was the leading scorer for a Tiger team that went to the NCAA Tournament and reached the national championship game. Blatchley scored 20 goals with 44 assists on the season, and he helped Towson beat Virginia, Princeton and Maryland in the NCAA Tournament before the Tigers lost to North Carolina in the championship game.
He earned his first honorable mention All-America honors following the Tigers' run to the NCAA finals. As a senior, John led the Tigers to a 9-3 record and a berth in the NCAA quarterfinals as Towson was seeded fourth in the NCAA Tournament. He earned honorable mention All-American notice for the second year in a row.
Blatchley finished his career with 57 goals and 125 assists, and his 182 career points rank him fourth on Towson’s career scoring list. At his graduation, he shared the Towson record for career assists (125) with Bob Griebe, a National Lacrosse Hall of Famer.
Since graduating from Towson, he has been very active as a lacrosse player and coach. He spent eight years playing for the Mount Washington Lacrosse Club and played in the National Lacrosse League for three years. He also played for the Baltimore Bayhawks of Major League Lacrosse for two seasons.
