Hall of Fame
One of the most outstanding wrestlers in Towson history, Eugene Spurrier '53 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 1983.
Spurrier competed for the Tigers from 1950-53 and won the 1953 Mason-Dixon Conference title in the 123-pound weight class despite being blind. He was the runner up in the same weight class as a junior. Spurrier was voted the team’s Most Valuable Wrestler as a senior.
While at Towson, he also participated in the Glee Club and the men’s chorus. Named as the Towson “Alumnus of the Year,” he was a member of the Baltimore Lions’ Club and the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He also was a member of the American Association of Workers for the Blind and the National Rehabilitation Association for the Blind.
