Hall of Fame
A member of the Towson Football coaching staff for more than 20 years, Rich Bader was inducted into the Towson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
From 1970 to 2008, he served as the team’s offensive line coach and helped develop a pair of All-Americans in Terry Brooks and Stan Eisenhooth. He is also the only Tiger assistant coach to have served three Towson head football coaches and to have coached at all three NCAA division levels at the same school.
Bader joined Towson's one year-old program football program and promptly helped lead the Tigers to their first winning season (1970) and first undefeated season (10-0; 1974). In 1976 he paced the sidelines as the Tigers reached the NCAA DIII championship game. In the early '80s, Bader guided Towson to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals twice (1983, 1986) and to the DII semifinals once (1984). In each of those years, Towson won the Lambert Award as well.
He was with the Tigers as they moved to NCAA Division I-AA (now FCS) football, and his offensive line blocked for Walter Payton award-winner and NFL player Dave Meggett. During the '90s, Bader saw Towson move to the Patriot League (1997-2003), the Atlantic 10 (2004-2006) and then finally the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) in 2007.
Bader began his coaching career at his alma mater, Central Connecticut State College, and later moved on to Western Connecticut. He served one year with Western Connecticut State before joining Coach Carl Runk’s staff at Towson.
