Hall of Fame
For 25 years, Margo VerKruzen coached just about every women’s sport at Towson. She came to Towson in 1962 and was instrumental in the growth and development of the women’s athletics programs and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990.
She was the Tigers’ field hockey coach from 1962-72, the basketball coach from 1962-75, the volleyball coach from 1962-79 and the softball coach from 1970-83.
At the same time, she was a member of the Towson physical education faculty and served as the program coordinator for three years. She led the Tiger basketball team to the Maryland state championship in 1973 and guided the 1983 softball team to a perfect 6-0 conference record in its first season of East Coast Conference (ECC) play.
She also served as an associate athletic director at Towson from 1975-79. The winner of the 1987 Doc Minnegan Award for contributions to the Tiger athletic program, she was also a collegiate official in field hockey, volleyball and softball. She was honored by the Baltimore Board of Officials for women’s sports in 1985 and received a certificate of appreciation from the Maryland Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (MAIAW) in 1979.
