A four-time selection as All-ECAC, Tandy Knight '91 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2001.

She was one of the toughest and most durable gymnasts ever to compete for the Tigers. During her four-year career, she never missed a meet due to injuries. She finished her career as Towson’s all-time scoring leader with 1,771.875 points and led the Tigers to four consecutive ECAC championships.

The ECAC all-around champion in 1989, she was also the ECAC balance beam champion as a freshman and sophomore. In her sophomore season, she set the ECAC record on the balance beam. In 1988, she was a member of the first Towson team to finish the season ranked among the top 20 teams in the NCAA Division I. Towson was ranked 19th at the end of the season.

She also led Towson to four straight NCAA Southeast regional appearances. In 1990, she was a key performer for the first Towson team to qualify for Nationals. Competing at the National Championship at Oregon State, she helped Towson finish ninth in the nation. In 1990, she was Towson’s top scorer with a school record 513.450 points. In 1989, she led Towson to the Towson Invitational championships, winning the all-around title.

When she graduated in 1991, she had the seventh-highest bars score in school history and she had the fourth-best all-around score. In her four years as a Tiger, Towson had an incredible 90-9 record, including a 23-1 mark in her junior year. As a junior, she competed as an all-around in every meet.

An outstanding student, she was named as an All-American Scholar-Athlete by the college gymnastics coaches in 1990 and 1991.

Since graduating from Towson, she has continued to be involved in gymnastics. She served as an assistant coach at Temple University for two years and has worked as a gymnastics coach with the YMCA programs in the Washington, D.C. area. She has also served as a volunteer coach in the gymnastics team recreational league.

A current resident of Rockville, Md., Knight works as a personal assistant for a prominent family in Washington, D.C.
