Hall of Fame
A very talented student-athlete who was a three-event performer for the Tiger gymnastics team, Janine Spezio Eikenberg '93 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2003.
She finished her career as the fifth-leading scorer in Towson history (1,379.225 points). Her career total is remarkable considering she never competed as an all-around since a shoulder injury prevented her from working on the uneven bars.
However, she excelled in vault, beam and floor exercise. A member of four ECAC championship teams, she earned All-ECAC honors three years in a row. A native of Lancaster, N.Y., Spezio Eikenberg was a member of the 1990 Tiger team that advanced to nationals and finished ninth in Division I. She was the Tiger co-captain as a junior and a senior and competed for Towson teams that qualified for NCAA regionals four years in a row.
The Tigers were ranked among the top 20 teams in the nation during three of her four years on the team. One of the Tigers’ top performers on the beam, Spezio Eikenberg won the Towson Invitational title as a sophomore, setting a meet record with a 9.75 score.
A 1993 graduate with a degree in speech language pathology, she was magna cum laude. A four-time member of the National Association of Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NAGCW) Scholar-Athlete team, she was named as the winner of Towson’s Academic Achievement Award as a senior and the school’s Unsung Hero Award as a sophomore.
Spezio Eikenberg also graduated from Loyola College magna cum laude in 1995 with a master’s degree in speech language pathology. After graduating, she worked at Kennedy Krieger as a pediatric speech language pathologist in the brain injury rehabilitation unit.
She is married to David Eikenberg.
