One of the top tennis players in school history, Mark Holtschneider '82 was inducted into the Towson Hall of Fame in 2002.
Holtschneider led the Tigers to a 37-13 record in his two seasons at Towson. A transfer from Essex Community College, he posted a 33-0 record in junior college play.

At Towson, he jumped right into the lineup at number two singles. In 1981-82 he helped the Tigers post a 23-3 record. Towson finished the season by taking sixth place at the Eastern Intercollegiate Meet at Rochester. He was the Tigers’ number two singles player and posed a 32-9 record. He also teamed up with Jim Rosenfield and posted a 29-4 record at number one doubles.

During the 1980-81 season, he was a finalist at number two singles at the ECAC Tournament. He also won the number two singles championship at Towson’s Tiger Classic.

In his senior season, he moved up to number one singles where he had a 15-8 record. In his second season of doubles play, the Perry Hall, Md., native went 12-7. He finished his Towson career with a 47-19 singles record and a 44-10 doubles mark, two of the finest records in Towson history.

A senior team captain and outstanding student, he won the Towson Academic Achievement Award in 1982.

After graduation, he played professionally on the European Tour for two years. After earning his license as a certified public accountant, Holtschneider attended law school at the University of Baltimore. He graduated from UB ranked first in his class.

He worked as a lawyer for the American Platform Tennis Association and the St. Paul Insurance Company. Holtschneider has also served as the director for many local tennis tournaments.

He and his wife Debbie have three sons, Ryan, Alex and Matthew.
